2009 Sustainability Agenda

The 2009 Sustainability Agenda outlines specific steps that the City Council commits to accomplishing this year. It was developed at the 2009 City Council retreat.

  1. Pass the Sustainability Element of the Comprehensive Plan.
  2. Develop a comprehensive recycling plan for the City of Edmonds, both as a corporate actor and throughout the community.
  3. Develop a green “branded” identity for Edmonds, and market Edmonds as a green destination.
  4. Look at building codes as they pertain to heat, insulation, and energy efficiency.
  5. Consider the banning of the use of plastic bags in Edmonds.
  6. Become a “Leadership City” with Cascade Land Conservancy.

The Council welcomes your participation

The City Council welcomes your attendance and participation at its weekly meetings. During regular meetings, the Council first reviews consent agenda items. These items are typically routine business matters that require no special study or discussion. If they choose to, however, a Councilmember(s) may remove any item from the consent agenda to allow for further discussion.
After review of consent agenda Items, the Council moves on to other business. They may adopt, amend, or repeal a City ordinance or law. Most ordinances become part of the City's municipal code. The Council may also pass a resolution to express a policy direction or make a public statement.
The audience-comments portion of the agenda is your opportunity to address City administrators and Councilmembers on items not listed on the agenda. Audience comments are limited to three minutes per speaker. Issues brought up during audience comments may not be directly responded to at the meeting but may be scheduled for discussion on a future agenda or referred to a Council Committee.
Two Councilmembers and City staff comprise each Council Committee. During these meetings, City staff present detailed briefings on issues that are before the full Council. Committee Councilmembers discuss issues, ask questions, and give staff direction on how to proceed. There is no audience-comment portion during Committee meetings.
