Crime Prevention Volunteer Unit

The Volunteer Unit, organized in 1978, and co-sponsored by the Edmonds Rotary Club is a very active part of the proactive and crime prevention efforts in Edmonds. Coordinated by the CPO, the group has a cadre of trained members.

In addition to important office support and assistance with micro-filming, data entry, false alarms and filing, the volunteers conduct two important programs in the community:

Vacation House Watch
A long-proven and very popular Crime Prevention Program!

Residents of Edmonds going away may "sign-up" for this by stopping-by the Police Department and requesting a form for Vacation House Check. You can also download the Vacation House Check Form (PDF) from this site.

Trained volunteers work in pairs to check for open doors and windows while the resident is away on vacation. Members are visibly marked and carry police radios to notify police of suspicious activity. If there is a problem that does not require immediate attention, then the "emergency contact" person listed will be contacted.

Packages and phone books left at the residence will be picked-up for safe keeping.
Radar Watch
Volunteers are trained to conduct this community program.

Volunteers set-up a "Radar Reader Board" and use a calibrated radar gun to accurately determine the speed of drivers. The speed is flashed on the board as the driver approaches advising of the speed.

For assistance with requesting vacation home watch or radar watch, contact Mr. Bill Vernon at , phone 425-775-7729.
